Join #RIBBA at the Rhode Island State House at 82 Smith Street in Providence this week, as we testify in support of strong economic development that empowers Black businesses.
On 2/14 at 3PM, there will be a press conference in support of Secure Choice. Our President, Lisa Ranglin will be speaking. This bill would allow RI workers without a retirement plan to establish a retirement savings account via the state they pay into. This provides security for workers and lets small businesses offer benefits that attract and retain a strong workforce.
On 2/15 at 4:30PM, the House Committee on Corporations will hear House Bill 5333 sponsored by Rep. Jay Edwards to ensure prompt payment of subcontractors. Businesses can’t grow and families can’t survive without a steady income–let’s make sure they get paid on time!
The next day 2/16 at 5PM, the Senate Finance Committee continues its budget hearings, including a proposal to increase the percentage of contracts awarded to Minority Business Enterprises (MBEs) from 10% to 15%. We’ll be there to give our support, but also urge the state to improve its equity goals and ensure more MBE enforcement and development.
